Happy Sam is the alter-ego of musician and wedding minister Sam Mixon. A fixture in the Athens music scene since 1982, Sam has recently shifted his songwriting talents in the direction of children's music and is currently working on his first, full-length children's music CD release with engineer and producer Jay Nackashi (Empire State), which he hopes to release in the near future on his self-owned label, Six Star Records. Sam has resided in the Athens, GA, area since enrolling in the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at UGA, graduating with a degree in advertising in 1985. During and since, he immersed himself in the Athens music scene, playing numerous instruments in numerous bands and as a studio musician. Most recently he has recorded and toured with Vic Chesnutt, Elf Power and the Sunshine Fix. He is currently married to Mary Claire Mixon, a high school dance instructor and also a graduate of UGA. They have one child, a daughter named Holly who is a student and who hopes to be a soccer-playing dentist, singer, trapeze artist and a Rhodes Scholar. Good luck to her on that. Sam plans to continue marrying happy couples and entertaining the kids that result, always enjoying the journey of life and the fun to be had along the way. |
